Looking for a good handicraft option for your kid(dos)? Check and see if your local Home-Depot hosts a kid's workshop. Many do. It's held monthly, on a Saturday morning, and they provide all the materials needed to complete a small wooden item. Safety goggles, hammers, sanding blocks, wood glue, it's all there for you. We have attended our local workshop for the last four months and we have really enjoyed it. The kids have made bird feeders, planters, a small organizer, and a toy truck. They have a different project designed for each month. Great way to teach your kids how to use a hammer if they don't already know! Also helps with reading and following directions! As an added bonus they get their very own Home-Depot orange apron with their name on it, and when their project is finished they get a pin for their apron and a certificate. Go check it out. It's completely free.
Why not make your own yogurt? I thought I didn't have time, just like you are thinking, until someone told me that you could do it in your crockpot. Yes, you can. And for $5.49 you can have a gallon of whole organic milk yogurt, as opposed to $3 a quart at the store.
And while you're at it, make your own laundry soap! I'm in the middle of a personal journey with homemade laundry soap, so I can't give you all the ins and outs of what I do yet. But I can tell you that I save a lot of money. And if you're needing to find ways to pinch pennies, here's a way to that most people don't think of.
Happy saving!

This Is Why
Why read poetry to your kids? Here's one reason why.
Barter
by Sara Teasdale
Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children's faces looking up
Holding wonder like a cup.
Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.
Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.
